Antique Gre Poir Pressed Cloth Doll 20s

Here’s an extremely rare pressed cloth doll by the Gre Poir company of France. Gre Poir dolls are made of pressed cloth, similar to and competitors of Lenci dolls from the same era.

This doll is about 17 inches tall, jointed, with human hair and a lovely painted face. Her nose was missing when she was rescued and professionally restored for display in a doll club show. I will include an email recounting details of the restoration. The lace trimmed slip, socks, and shoes are either original or extremely accurate copies, but I think her tweed suit and velvet hat, trimmed with an ostrich feather, are handmade reproductions. The doll does have some water marks and other wear, but she’s still lovely, and frankly her condition puts this extraordinarily rare doll into the reach of less-affluent collectors.
