Vintage pyrogene “match striker” Aux Lions de Faience. Porcelain Advertising matchstrike / match holder. These counter top match holders were common in cafes, bistros or bars in France and were an early form of advertising. They would be full of free matches for patrons. The match could be struck against the ridges on the side to ignite the match.
Marked in French with advertising for the cafe Aux Lions de Faience. The match holder serves as a menu and price list of sorts for table services like cabarets a liqueurs, terre de fer, etc for 20 and 40 francs.
This would make a great addition to any bar area or ceramic collection.
